It<br \/>\nwas a meeting of minds. &#8220;I&#8217;m a Republican because of Richard Nixon,&#8221; Der Grope<br \/>\nproclaimed.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Is he &#8220;a Nixon Republican at heart?&#8221; Sandy Quinn, the library&#8217;s assistant director, recently<br \/>\nasked. And answered: &#8220;It sure looks that way from Yorba Linda.&#8221;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>How could we have missed it? The historic meeting &#8220;has now been immortalized in items<br \/>\navailable exclusively in the Library&#8217;s Museum Store,&#8221; the library&#8217;s Web site notes.<br \/>\nThey&nbsp;include the <STRONG>Arnold and RN Coffee Mug,<\/STRONG> the<br \/>\n<STRONG>Arnold and&nbsp;RN Keychain,<\/STRONG>&nbsp;the <STRONG>Arnold and RN<br \/>\nRefrigerator Magnet<\/STRONG> and the <B>Arnold and RN T-Shirt. <\/B>Step right up: The<br \/>\nitems are also <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.nixonlibrary.org\/store\/index.cfm?fuseaction=product_list&#038;Category_Selected=\n23\"><B><EM><FONT color=#003399>available online<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A>.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>&#8220;Beginning with the Elvis-Nixon t-shirt, Americans have looked to the Nixon Library for<br \/>\nholiday gift ideas with a unique political and historical slant,&#8221; said John H. Taylor, Nixon<br \/>\nFoundation executive director.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Well, isn&#8217;t that what a presidential library is for? <\/P><br \/>\n<P>Meantime, Quinn says the library will &#8220;proudly welcome back our old friend&#8221;&nbsp;whenever<br \/>\nhe can take&nbsp;a break&nbsp;from saving California.&nbsp;She calls him &#8220;a great friend of the<br \/>\nNixon legacy.&#8221;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Ouch.<\/P><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The time was 1991.
