Strange he hasn&#8217;t talked it up.\u00a0Or maybe you thought it was\u00a0called the Occupied Iraq Symphony Orchestra, given that the Iraqis lack <a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.gov\/p\/nea\/ci\/15564.htm\"><b><em><span style=\"color: #003399;\">sovereignty<\/span><\/em><\/b><\/a>. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>What puzzles me, however, is where did they get all the visas? You may recall the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poppolitics.com\/articles\/2002-10-16-visadelays.shtml\"><b><em><span style=\"color: #003399;\">visa wars<\/span><\/em><\/b><\/a> the Bush administration has been waging,\u00a0making it difficult or impossible for foreign artists from &#8220;enemy&#8221; nations to enter the United\u00a0States. Did the State Department decide to give the Iraqis all the visas they&#8217;ve been withholding\u00a0from the Cuban musicians\u00a0or the\u00a0others they&#8217;ve turned down? &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Now that Tom Cruise is playing Nathan Algren in <a href=\"http:\/\/lastsamurai.warnerbros.com\/html_index.php\"><b><em><span style=\"color: #003399;\">&#8220;The Last Samurai,&#8221; <\/span><\/em><\/b><\/a>maybe he will start aHollywood trend of naming all film heroes and heroines for American novelists. &#8230; For starters,\u00a0how about Joe Updike and Fani Morrison, to star in a movie titled &#8220;The Human Saint,&#8221; based on\u00a0a novel by\u00a0Phyllis Roth with a screenplay by Paul Bellow, Ashley Tan and Tommy\u00a0Kushner, to be directed by Mark Nichols? &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2003\/11\/30\/arts\/television\/30ABRA.html\"><b><em><span style=\"color: #003399;\">the real Kushner<\/span><\/em><\/b><\/a>, Tony by name, has he been\u00a0sanctified yet? Except for <a href=\"http:\/\/andrewsullivan.com\/main_article.php?artnum=20031120\"><b><em><span style=\"color: #003399;\">Andrew Sullivan&#8217;s rank demurral<\/span><\/em><\/b><\/a><em>,<\/em> the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.time.com\/time\/magazine\/article\/0,9171,1101031208-552117,00.html\"><b><span style=\"color: #003399;\">tsunami of publicity<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u00a0in the run-up\u00a0to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorkmetro.com\/nymetro\/arts\/tv\/reviews\/n_9578\/index.html\"><b>Sunday&#8217;s\u00a0HBO version<\/b><\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/articles\/A19360-2003Nov28.html\"><b>&#8220;<em>Angels in America&#8221;<\/em><\/b><\/a> would make you think so.\u00a0I love the play as much as anyone.
