I got a small grin out of <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/seattletimes.nwsource.com\/html\/nationworld\/2001786164_democracy08.html\"><B><br \/>\n<EM><FONT color=#003399>Bush&#8217;s call for democracy in the Middle<br \/>\nEast.<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A> It made me think of what put-upon Col. Wainwright Purdy III<br \/>\nsaid in the 1956 movie <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.amctv.com\/show\/detail\/0,,3305-1-EST,00.html\"><B><EM><FONT\ncolor=#003399>&#8220;The Teahouse of the August Moon&#8221;:<\/FONT><\/EM><\/B><\/A> <I>&#8220;My job is<br \/>\nto teach these natives the meaning of democracy. And they&#8217;re going to learn democracy if I have<br \/>\nto shoot every one of them!&#8221;<\/I> (So there&#8217;s no misunderstanding: This is not a movie<br \/>\nrecommendation. &#8220;Teahouse&#8221; was considered charming at the time, but it&#8217;s very weak tea.)<\/P><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s hope yet for a brighter weekend.
