The last time she was asked to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/2020\/04\/a-lesson-in-the-art-of-drawing-taking-the-line-for-a-walk.html\"> copy a sketch by Daumier<\/a>. The point of that exercise was to shape the forms through the tonal value of the lines rather than outlining them with a fixed line. The assignment let her find her own way without  any instruction.
