she said she’d been reading a book about Edith Piaf and was gripped by it.<\/center>

\nParisians make love to Piaf when they wish.
\nBut since Paris is making love more than once in a night
\nI have to keep serving it a new musical dish!”<\/p>\n

“Death does not exist,” she’d laugh then she’d sing,
\n“Because you can live forever in a song,”
\nAnd her emotional power crackled like lightning,
\nIn a voice that never seemed to go wrong —<\/p>\n

And with it she’d happily celebrate wrongdoers,
\nLike ‘Le Contrabandier,’
\nFor to her such a smuggler was ‘a sort of poet’
\nAnd she’d often have criminals to stay.<\/p>\n

“They pay me with warmth, I pay them with songs,
\nTu vois, when I’m Piaf I’m no longer on earth,
\nSinging’s the way that I escape to another world
\nWhere unloved orphans enjoy a new birth.”<\/p>\n
