Waller and lyricist Andy Razaf were driving in New Jersey to Atlantic City. On the way they were stopped by a traffic cop. &#8220;After pleading for quite some time,&#8221; according to Hyman, &#8220;Fats simply said,  &#8216;Well, officer, our fate is in your hands.'&#8221; Hyman didn&#8217;t say what the cop said or did.
