Ferlinghetti: The Fight to Publish Allen Ginsberg&#8217;s Howl<\/a><\/em>, which, it so happens, is closely related to<em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Greet-Beginning-Great-Career-Correspondence\/dp\/0872866866\/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3Q7Q93ZVQ9U9K&amp;keywords=i+greet+you+at+the+beginning+of+a+great+career&amp;qid=1557778861&amp;s=gateway&amp;sprefix=i+greet+you+at+the+b%2Caps%2C129&amp;sr=8-1-spell\">I Greet You at the Beginning of a Great Career: The Selected Correspondence of Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Allen Ginsberg, 1955-1997<\/a><\/em>, published four years ago here in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why do I mention all of this? Well, for some reason the Spiked article never mentions the fact that Ferlinghetti appropriated that fabled greeting of Emerson\u2019s to Whitman. Nor, as far as I can tell, was the appropriation  mentioned in any of the reviews and articles that appeared when I <em>Greet You &#8230; <\/em>was published in the U.S., even though it is pointed out by the editor. You&#8217;d think a review would have noted the purposeful literary reference, especially given Ginsberg&#8217;s reverence for Whitman\u2014and if someone did, please let me know.
