Writer<br \/>\nDaniel Gross recalls the bankrupt wreckage of Planet Hollywood and what a <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/slate.msn.com\/id\/2086889\/\"><FONT color=#003399><EM><STRONG>&#8220;glory<br \/>\nhog&#8221;<\/STRONG><\/EM><\/FONT><\/A> our celebrity of the people was as that &#8217;90s restaurant<br \/>\nchain went belly up.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Arnold never had to put up a dime.&nbsp;(That was lucky, not smart.)&nbsp;All he had to do<br \/>\nwas publicize his involvement with the chain. As a so-called &#8220;celebrity investor,&#8221; he receive<br \/>\n&#8220;options representing 20 percent of the&nbsp; company&#8217;s stock&#8221; &#8212; now worthless.&nbsp; <\/P><br \/>\n<P>Gross suggests that Arnold is pulling a Planet Hollywood rerun with his gubernatorial<br \/>\ncandidacy. He put up none of the capital for the recall and he&#8217;s hogging the limelight. If he were to<br \/>\nwin election, why wouldn&#8217;t the likely outcome for an already bankrupt California be Planet<br \/>\nHollywood II?<BR>&nbsp;<BR>Another hopeful sign that Arnold&#8217;s free ride might cost him<br \/>\nis&nbsp;Bob Herbert&#8217;s column <A\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2003\/08\/11\/opinion\/11HERB.html?n=Top%2fOpinion%2\"><FO\nNT color=#003399><STRONG><EM>&#8220;The Art of the False<br \/>\nImpression&#8221;<\/EM><\/STRONG><\/FONT><\/A> in The New York Times (free registration<br \/>\nrequired). It&nbsp;underscores the&nbsp;news media&#8217;s misplaced attention,&nbsp;pointing out<br \/>\nthat Al Gore&#8217;s non-candidate attack on the &#8220;false impressions&#8221; Bush has foisted on the nation was<br \/>\npretty much ignored. &nbsp;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>&#8220;Mr. Gore has never been mistaken for an entertainer,&#8221; Herbert writes. &#8220;In the superamplified<br \/>\nmedia din created by the likes of Arnold and Kobe and Ben and Jen, it&#8217;s very difficult for the<br \/>\nformer vice president, a certified square, to break into the national conversation.&#8221;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The shame of it is, Shwarzenegger is not much of an entertainer either.
