Ernst reportedly made the entire book of collages in three weeks. A few of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Une_semaine_de_bont%C3%A9\">his sources were identified<\/a> as illustrations from an 1883 novel by Jules Mary, <em>Les damn\u00e9es de Paris,<\/em> and possibly a volume of works by Gustave Dor\u00e9. Ernst used scissors and paper. Below, we have a collage titled &#8220;One Trip Pony.&#8221; by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sibirische-zelle.org\/art\/robert_schalinski\/art_schal_1.html\">Robert Schalinski<\/a>. He made it last month for a book by <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wolf_Pehlke\">Wolf Pehlke<\/a> not yet published. Made before digital tools were available, the book was <a href=\"https:\/\/trove.nla.gov.au\/work\/27338562?q&#038;versionId=32954037\">first published by Olympia Press<\/a> in 1961. Rubington also used <strong>extended captions<\/strong> to narrate the story. They describe, among other things, <strong>&#8220;Sudden deaths due to narcotics . . . &#8220;<\/strong> including <em>below, on the right,<\/em> <strong>&#8221; . . . the most hideous case of the swollen corpse: death induced by an overdose of heroin.
