In a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/02\/25\/arts\/music\/25bene.html?_r=1&#038;ref=music\">promotional article<\/a> about the orchestra, James Oestreich plants a big wet kiss on Clemens Hellsberg, its chairman and archivist, lauding him as &#8220;a force for change.&#8221; He dismisses the orchestra&#8217;s continuing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.osborne-conant.org\/ten-years.htm\">discrimination against  women<\/a> as a  &#8220;female issue&#8221; not worth mentioning except in passing, let alone its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/2006\/12\/vpo_america_blacks_classical_m.html\">exclusion of people of color<\/a>. Oestreich also writes, &#8220;Probably no one knows better [than Hellsberg] what lies in the orchestra&#8217;s past, especially during the Nazi years, for which it may need to make amends.&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/2005\/11\/yeah_the_holocaust_really_happ.html\">May?<\/a><br \/>\nToday&#8217;s promo follows a full-page ad in the print edition of the Times on Sunday, which announced the orchestra&#8217;s concert tonight at Carnegie Hall, featuring conductor Zubin Mehta and Lang Lang at the piano, to benefit the National Academy Foundation. The ad thanked &#8220;corporate partners&#8221; for their largesse, listing such financial titans as that wonderful philanthropist <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sanford_Weill\">Sanford I. Weill<\/a> (of JP Morgan Chase &#038; Co., formerly CEO and chairman of Citigroup), and announced a Lifetime Achievement Award for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.petersoninstitute.org\/staff\/author_bio.cfm?author_id=52\">Peter G. Peterson<\/a> (of the Blackstone Group, formerly Nixon&#8217;s Secretary of Commerce).
