Her column this morning shows yet again that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/archives\/2007\/01\/time_for_him_to.html\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>President With His Head Up His Ass<\/strong><\/font><\/a> is well named. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/03\/15\/opinion\/15collins.html?_r=1&#038;ref=opinion&#038;oref=slogin\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>She writes:<\/strong><\/font><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The president squinched his face and bit his lip and seemed too antsy to stand still. As he searched for the name of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia (&#8220;the king, uh, the king of Saudi&#8221;) and made guy-fun of one of the questioners (&#8220;Who picked Gigot?&#8221;), you had to wonder what the international financial community makes of a country whose president could show up to talk economics in the middle of a liquidity crisis and kind of flop around the stage as if he was emcee at the Iowa Republican Pig Roast.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.archive.org\/details\/his_girl_friday\"  class=inline target=new\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt title=\"Cary Grant, as newspaper editor Walter J. Burns, in 'His Girl Friday'\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/Walter%20J%20Burns%20%28Cary%20Grant%29%20179x240.jpg\" align=left width=178 border=0 \/><\/a>The column is also charming proof that Collins must be a fan of the 1940 screwball comedy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weeklyscript.com\/His%20Girl%20Friday.txt\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>&#8220;His Girl Friday&#8221;<\/strong><\/font><\/a> and Walter J. Burns, the editor of The Morning Post, who orders an underling in the newsroom, &#8220;Take the President&#8217;s speech and run it on the funny page.&#8221;<br \/>\nBurns has plenty of gems like that. Here&#8217;s another: &#8220;Now, listen, Duffy &#8212; I want you to tear out the whole front page&#8230; That&#8217;s what I said &#8212; the whole front page! Never mind the European war! We&#8217;ve got something a whole lot bigger than that.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President With His Head Up His Ass is well named.
