On Thursday night, that long-dormant emotion came rushing back, like an old dream that pops out of the deepest recesses of memory, suddenly as clear as light. &#8220;They said this day would never come,&#8221; said Barack Obama, and yet here, right before us, was indisputable evidence that it had.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/pages\/frontline\/torture\/view\/\" class=inline target=new\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt title=\"'Untitled,' collage by Norman O. Cut the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theonion.com:80\/content\/video\/poll_bullshit_is_most_important\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>bullshit<\/strong><\/font><\/a>. The winds of change don&#8217;t smell all <i>that<\/i> good. Just read <a  href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2008\/01\/04\/AR2008010404308.html?hpid=opinionsbox1\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>what George McGovern says<\/strong><\/font><\/a> this morning about impeaching the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/archives\/2007\/01\/time_for_him_to.html\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>Bullshitter-in-Chief<\/strong><\/font><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/POLITICS\/blogs\/politicalticker\/2007\/04\/reid-cheney-is-bushs-attack-dog.html\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>Attack Dog<\/strong><\/font><\/a>, the chief&#8217;s partner in high crimes and misdemeanors. Or have a look at Norman O. Mustill&#8217;s collage, above. Maybe it will pop the nightmare instead of the dream &#8220;out of the deepest recesses of memory.&#8221;<br \/>\nFor all your shiny prose, dear Frank, and all your anti-establishment chest-thumping about the willful Beltway stupidity of mainstream political journalism &#8212; as though a polished reference to &#8220;fear and loathing&#8221; could channel Hunter S.
