In the last month alone we registered so many objections our insults glaze over. (See <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/archives\/2006\/10\/banana_republic.html\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>Banana Republicans<\/strong><\/font><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/archives\/2006\/11\/rubber_stamps.html\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>Rubber Stamps<\/strong><\/font><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/archives\/2006\/11\/regime_change.html\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>Regime Change<\/strong><\/font><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/archives\/2006\/11\/pants_on_fire.html\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>Pants On Fire<\/strong><\/font><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/archives\/2006\/11\/no_full_stop.html\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>No Full Stop<\/strong><\/font><\/a>).<br \/>\nSo we couldn&#8217;t help noticing with a certain amount of self-satisfaction that just yesterday <a href=\"http:\/\/www.truthout.org\/docs_2006\/112406C.shtml\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>Paul Krugman asked<\/strong><\/font><\/a>, &#8220;Do we have to wait for a constitutional crisis to realize that we&#8217;re in danger of becoming a digital-age banana republic?&#8221;<br \/>\nWe concede he was not pointing at the use of torture and military tribunals that prohibit habeus corpus, as we were, but at &#8220;vote suppression and defective &#8212; or rigged &#8212; electronic voting machines&#8221; in Florida during the recent midterm election.
