But KO&#8217;s recent editorials must be noted as knockouts. I&#8217;m thinking particularly of his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/15147009\/\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>special commentary on lying<\/strong><\/font><\/a>, broadcast on Oct. 5. I presume you&#8217;ve seen it. If not, you missed the single best opinion piece on mainstream television. For that matter, it may have been the best to appear anywhere.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/15147009\/\" class=inline target=new\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=Keith Olbermann, on \"Countdown\" src=\"http:\/\/msnbcmedia.msn.com\/j\/msnbc\/Components\/Video\/061005\/n_countdown_comment_061005.300w.jpg\" width=240 align=right border=0 \/><\/a> Watch it. Read it. Relish it.  The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/archives\/2005\/08\/jim_holts_criti.html\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>Bullshitter-in-Chief<\/strong><\/font><\/a> &#8220;comes across as a compulsive liar,&#8221; he says. He &#8220;has savaged the very freedoms he claims to be protecting from attack,&#8221; and &#8220;it is now impossible to find a consistent thread of logic as to who [he] believes the enemy is.&#8221;<br \/>\nIt seems to me no accident that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/3036677\/\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>&#8220;Countdown,&#8221;<\/strong><\/font><\/a> Olbermann&#8217;s daily cable show on MSNBC, has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/stories\/2006\/10\/08\/ap\/entertainment\/mainD8KKIT900.shtml\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>doubled its audience<\/strong><\/font><\/a>. But if god forbid the Republicans retain control of the Congress after next month&#8217;s mid-term elections, will MSNBC execs keep him on the air? Or will he be Donahued? Given their lack of principles in the past &#8212; and notwithstanding Olbermann&#8217;s own comment that &#8220;as long as you make them money, they don&#8217;t care&#8221; &#8212; let&#8217;s hope they&#8217;re not put to the test.<br \/>\n<strong>PS:<\/strong> A friend writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/15220450\/\" class=inline  target=new\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A Keith Olbermann classic\" src=\"http:\/\/msnbcmedia.msn.com\/j\/msnbc\/Components\/Video\/061010\/n_countodwn_habeascorpus_061010.300w.jpg\" width=180 align=left border=0 \/><\/a>I&#8217;ve been watching him a long time &#038; he just gets better. Did you catch his piece on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/15220450\/\" class=inline  target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>the elimination of habeas corpus<\/strong><\/font><\/a>, the one where he draws a big red <strong><font color=#FF0000>X<\/strong><\/font> through one article after another in the Bill of Rights? It&#8217;s a classic.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>PPS:<\/strong> Yes, I caught it. And this, too, the day before, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washtimes.com\/op-ed\/nhentoff.htm\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399> &#8220;Habeas corpus sellout,&#8221;<\/strong><\/font><\/a> by Nat Hentoff. And just this morning (Oct. 15) the NYT editorial <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2006\/10\/15\/opinion\/15sun1.html?_r=1&#038;oref=slogin\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>&#8220;Guilty Until Confirmed Guilty.&#8221;<\/strong><\/font><\/a> Another friend writes, &#8220;That Hentoff&#8217;s piece appeared in The Washington Times gives me hope.&#8221; Ha.
