Since the judge was an elusive target<\/strong><\/font><\/a> (NY Times), who sought to distance himself<\/strong><\/font><\/a> from conservative political opinions he once held (LA Times) and flatly disavowed<\/strong><\/font><\/a> a line from a 1985 job application for the Reagan regime as “an inapt phrase, and I certainly didn’t mean that literally at the time” (Washington Post), we asked our poet to clarify what his testimony on Tuesday actually meant:
\nSAMUEL ALITO LEVELS WITH
\nSENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE<\/strong><\/i>
\nI hold these truths to be self-evident:
\nAbortion is a sin — that’s heaven-sent.
\nThe modern corporation can do no wrong.
\nEmployees have the right to strike — a gong.
\nSupreme power rests with the PRESIDENT.
\nCivil rights means being obedient.
\nThe majority reflects the will of God.
\nMinorities need whipping with a rod.
\nThe swing-vote seat on the Court’s a holy site
\nThe Lord Himself reserved for the Ultra Right.
\nThese are the aims to which my heart aspires,
\nBeloved by all, including Harriet Miers.
\nWhat’s more, I never crashed a Harley bike*<\/font>
\nNor met a prosecutor I didn’t like.
\nI grant the law’s the law, as all you know —
\nSo long as the PRESIDENT agrees it’s so.<\/i>

The Culifawnya governator, “brandishing 15 stitches on his top lip from the crash, told reporters Tuesday that he hadn’t obtained a California motorcycle license because he had ‘never thought about it.'”
