And Frank Rich unloads on <a href=\"http:\/\/select.nytimes.com\/2005\/10\/23\/opinion\/23rich.html\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>&#8220;Karl and Scooter&#8217;s Excellent Adventure.&#8221;<\/font><\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nBut we want to call your attention to David Brooks on <a href=\"http:\/\/select.nytimes.com\/2005\/10\/23\/opinion\/23brooks.html\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>&#8220;The Savior of the Right.&#8221;<\/strong><\/font><\/a> He writes that the Bullshitter-in-Chief has &#8220;modernized and saved&#8221; conservatism. We were still rubbing our eyes over that, when along came the reiteration: &#8220;Despite all the mistakes that have been made, it is nonetheless true that [he] has ennobled and saved American conservatism.&#8221;<br \/>\nAlso, how about this for inflation? In her <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/10\/23\/books\/review\/23orourke.html\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>review of &#8220;Veronica,&#8221;<\/strong><\/font><\/a> Mary Gaitskill&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/tg\/detail\/-\/0375421459\/qid=1130087467\/sr=2-1\/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1\/104-5618531-0340703?v=glance&#038;s=books\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>new novel<\/font><\/strong><\/a>, Meghan O&#8217;Rourke sails in turgid waters when she writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Her prose has a perfumed clarity.
