{"id":1269,"date":"2005-09-27T13:26:26","date_gmt":"2005-09-27T20:26:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/wp\/2005\/09\/true_believers\/"},"modified":"2005-09-27T13:26:26","modified_gmt":"2005-09-27T20:26:26","slug":"true_believers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/2005\/09\/true_believers.html","title":{"rendered":"TRUE BELIEVERS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Christopher Hitchens (who <a href=\"http:\/\/slate.msn.com\/?id=2126913&#038;nav=tap2\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>objects to the phoney peaceniks<\/strong><\/font><\/a> of the antiwar protest in Washington &#8212; he&#8217;s especially incensed by Ramsey Clark) and Jinx McHue (the latest reader to write us that Jeb Eddy is no Republican, see <a href=\"http:\/\/wizbangblog.com\/archives\/007187.php\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>Wizbang!<\/strong><\/font><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chronwatch.com\/content\/contentDisplay.asp?aid=17002\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>Chronwatch<\/strong><\/font><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/shockandblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/09\/ashamed-republican-actually-lying.html\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>Shock &#038; Blog<\/font><\/strong><\/a>, but rather &#8220;a big, fat, liberal phony &#8212; but that&#8217;s being redundant, isn&#8217;t it?&#8221;) both make the case that the press can&#8217;t be trusted to clarify the issues or even to lay out the facts because it&#8217;s biased, stupid, easily fooled and, not least, amnesiac.<br \/>\nIn answer to which &#8212; oblique ripostes, admittedly &#8212; we offer two poems inspired by columnists whose writings we believe to be fair, smart, fully informed and equipped with thorough data bases:<br \/>\n<i><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/select.nytimes.com\/2005\/09\/25\/opinion\/25rich.html?n=Top%2fOpinion%2fEditorials%20and%20Op%2dEd%2fOp%2dEd%2fColumnists\" class=inline target=new\"><font color=#000000>HARDING DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN<\/strong><\/font><\/a><br \/>\nHarding!  Harding!
