{"id":1254,"date":"2005-09-28T10:49:26","date_gmt":"2005-09-28T17:49:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/wp\/2005\/09\/gumpified_republicans\/"},"modified":"2005-09-28T10:49:26","modified_gmt":"2005-09-28T17:49:26","slug":"gumpified_republicans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/2005\/09\/gumpified_republicans.html","title":{"rendered":"GUMPIFIED REPUBLICANS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jeb Eddy, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/archives\/2005\/09\/read_all_about_1.html\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>Republican ashamed of his party<\/strong><\/font><\/a>, defended himself in an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chronwatch.com\/content\/contentDisplay.asp?aid=17015\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>email exchange<\/font><\/strong><\/a> with a critic, John Armor, who claims Eddy is just a Democrat in disguise.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tech-sol.net\/humor\/funphoto150.htm\" class=inline target=new\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Getting a screwing\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kangamini.us\/img\/poordonkey.gif\" width=220 align=right bordert=0 \/><\/a> Among the many things he says,  Eddy notes that if one thing expresses &#8220;my Republican values,&#8221; it is &#8220;Ike&#8217;s farewell address three days before Kennedy&#8217;s inauguration.&#8221; He also says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[A]s a Republican, I disagree with many actions, policies and values of the current Republican party, especially its present leadership.  The effort to silence dissent within the Republican party has been a hallmark since Ronald Reagan.  I believe it is misguided, and am willing to stand up and say so.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In the argument over whether Eddy is or isn&#8217;t a true Republican, what escapes Armor and <a href=\"http:\/\/shockandblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/09\/ashamed-republican-actually-lying.html\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>critics like him<\/font><\/strong><\/a> is that they&#8217;re making Eddy&#8217;s own case for him. By arguing that Eddy is not really G.O.P. ilk &#8212; mainly because he has given contributions to Democrats and doesn&#8217;t believe in the current Republican leadership &#8212; they contend that to be deemed worthy of the G.O.P. he must be a narrow-minded, Bible-thumping, war-mongering supporter of incompetence, cronyism and mismanagement.<br \/>\nWhich is precisely Eddy&#8217;s larger point.  And when Armor paraphrases Forrest Gump to clinch his argument &#8212; &#8220;Republican is as Republican does&#8221; &#8212; all he&#8217;s doing is testifying to his and the G.O.P&#8217;s Gumpness. Of which this is further proof: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.al.com\/news\/birminghamnews\/index.ssf?\/base\/news\/112790008991370.xml&#038;coll=2\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>&#8220;Senator says storms are punishment from God.&#8221;<\/font><\/strong><\/a> Needless to say, the senator is a Republican.<br \/>\n<i>&#8211;Tireless Staff of Thousands<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jeb Eddy, the email exchange with a critic, John Armor, who claims Eddy is just a Democrat in disguise. critics like him is that they&#8217;re making Eddy&#8217;s own case for him.
