{"id":1203,"date":"2005-08-15T10:29:17","date_gmt":"2005-08-15T17:29:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/wp\/2005\/08\/new_antonomasia_policy\/"},"modified":"2005-08-15T10:29:17","modified_gmt":"2005-08-15T17:29:17","slug":"new_antonomasia_policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/2005\/08\/new_antonomasia_policy.html","title":{"rendered":"NEW ANTONOMASIA POLICY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From here on in we will no longer refer to the current president of the United States as Dear Leader, King George, Georgie Boy, King Georgie Boy, W., Gee Dubya, or by any other antonomasia (lovely, obscure word stolen from William Buckley&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/08\/14\/books\/14letters.html?pagewanted=all\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>letter<\/strong><\/font><\/a>) except for one: the Liar-in-Chief.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"tonto and lone ranger.gif\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/archives\/tonto%20and%20lone%20ranger.gif\" width=274 align=left border=o \/> It&#8217;s time for our change of policy when Paul Krugman can call him an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/08\/15\/opinion\/15krugman.html?oref=login\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>outright liar<\/strong><\/font><\/a> on this morning&#8217;s New York Times op-ed page (&#8220;Oh, I&#8217;m sorry &#8212; was that a rude thing to say?&#8221;), and when Frank Rich can diss him with refreshing impudence by channeling <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tonto_(Lone_Ranger_character)\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>Tonto<\/strong><\/font><\/a> (via Lenny Bruce) on Sunday&#8217;s op-ed page: &#8220;&#8216;We will stay the course [in Iraq],&#8217; he insistently tells us from his Texas ranch. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/08\/14\/opinion\/14rich.html\" class=inline target=new\"><strong><font color=#003399>What do you mean we, white man?&#8221;<\/strong><\/font><\/a><strong>*<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>*Footnote:<\/strong> The Lone Ranger, in mask, and Tonto are sitting around the camp fire when the Lone Ranger remarks to Tonto that a thousand Indian warriors are bearing down on them and asks him, &#8220;What should we do?&#8221; to which Tonto replies, &#8220;What do you mean we, white man?&#8221;<br \/>\n<i>&#8212; Tireless Staff of Thousands<\/i><br \/>\n<strong>Postscript:<\/strong> G.I.
