NPR failed to make clear that the<br \/>\nartwork is not in the possession of the museum. In fact, the painting is in the custody of the<br \/>\nfederal government. In addition, we said the museum opposed a Jewish family&#8217;s efforts to recover<br \/>\nthe painting, &#8220;Portrait of Wally,&#8221; by Egon Schiele. However, we did not report the museum&#8217;s<br \/>\nstatement, made to NPR, that it had never taken a position on the question of the painting&#8217;s<br \/>\nownership. Finally, NPR failed to give the museum an opportunity to answer allegations in our<br \/>\nstory about its motivations and actions in the dispute over the painting&#8217;s<br \/>\nownership.<\/P><\/BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<P><\/P><br \/>\n<P>That has been <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/story\/story.php?storyId=4246589\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>boiled down<\/FONT><\/B><\/A> to this on the<br \/>\nstory&#8217;s page:<\/P><br \/>\n<P><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE>Correction: The government, not the museum, has custody of the artwork.<br \/>\nThe museum says it took no position on the question of the painting&#8217;s ownership.
