{"id":1100,"date":"2005-03-26T01:19:38","date_gmt":"2005-03-26T09:19:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/wp\/2005\/03\/too_sweet_to_believe\/"},"modified":"2005-03-26T01:19:38","modified_gmt":"2005-03-26T09:19:38","slug":"too_sweet_to_believe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/herman\/2005\/03\/too_sweet_to_believe.html","title":{"rendered":"TOO SWEET TO BELIEVE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Theater writer Jesse McKinley learned two object lessons this week: Never trust a Broadway<br \/>\nproducer, especially for a <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/03\/25\/theater\/newsandfeatures\/25char.html\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>puff piece<\/FONT><\/B><\/A>, and never report that<br \/>\nsomething in the future is &#8220;certain&#8221; to happen, especially in the theater. &#8220;On Thursday,&#8221; he wrote,<br \/>\nthe producer of a new &#8220;Sweet Charity&#8221; revival told him plans to bring the show to Broadway<br \/>\nwere &#8220;going ahead, unchanged.&#8221; On Friday, McKinley reported: &#8220;One thing is certain: After the<br \/>\nshow&#8217;s run in Boston &#8212; it closes Sunday &#8212; the whole production will head to New York, where it<br \/>\nbegins previews at the Al Hirschfeld Theater on April 4.&#8221; And now, on Saturday, the headline on<br \/>\nhis latest report reads: <A class=inline\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/03\/26\/theater\/newsandfeatures\/26char.html?\"\ntarget='new\"'><B><FONT color=#003399>&#8220;&#8216;Sweet Charity&#8217; Revival Will Not Be Coming to<br \/>\nBroadway.&#8221;<\/FONT><\/B><\/A> Somehow it fails to say, <B>&#8220;After All.&#8221;<\/B> I&#8217;m sure McKinley<br \/>\nknew the lessons all along, just forgot what he knew.<br \/>\n<P><\/P><br \/>\n<P><B>Postscript:<\/B> Can you believe it?
