There were a few (hundred thousand) people in between us and the new president. <\/p>\n<p><span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"inaug09.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/gap\/inaug09.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto 20px; text-align: center; display: block;\" height=\"300\" width=\"450\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Now we wait. There&#8217;s been talk about <a href=\"http:\/\/citizensbriefingbook.change.gov\/search\/SearchResults?str=arts&#038;search.x=0&#038;search.y=0&#038;search=Submit\">arts policy proposals<\/a> and such already, of course. If Obama got up this morning after that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/ref\/us\/politics\/2009_INAUGURATION_SS_index.html\">marathon performance<\/a> (his <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wired.com\/cars\/2009\/01\/obama-rolls-a-s.html\">fierce new ride<\/a> didn&#8217;t turn into a pumpkin until <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/slideshow\/2009\/01\/21\/us\/20090121BALLS_10.html\">well past 3 a.m.<\/a>, apparently) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/01\/21\/us\/politics\/21inaug.html?_r=1&amp;hp\">went to work<\/a>, what should the arts community be up and at in the first 100 days? And in the spirit of &#8220;ask not what your country can do for you&#8230;&#8221;, while we&#8217;re brushing off and feeling all hopeful and intellectually fired up again, what should we be organizing to help propel the nation forward now that the weekend of a hundred speeches is winding down?<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, sort of.
