{"id":624,"date":"2009-04-18T12:00:31","date_gmt":"2009-04-18T19:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/foot\/wp\/2009\/04\/go_merce_cunninghams_nearly_ni\/"},"modified":"2009-04-18T12:00:31","modified_gmt":"2009-04-18T19:00:31","slug":"go_merce_cunninghams_nearly_ni","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/foot\/2009\/04\/go_merce_cunninghams_nearly_ni.html","title":{"rendered":"Go: Final exits at &#8220;Nearly Ninety&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font style=\"font-size: 1.25em;\"><br \/><font style=\"font-size: 1.25em;\">I have a review coming out<\/font><\/font><font style=\"font-size: 1.25em;\"><font style=\"font-size: 1.25em;\">&#8211;Monday, I think it is; I will link to it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/2\/17204254-2e8d-11de-b7d3-00144feabdc0.html\">here<\/a>&#8212;<\/font><\/font><font style=\"font-size: 1.25em;\"><font style=\"font-size: 1.25em;\">on the BAM Cunningham show that runs through Sunday, so I will keep mum on the subject except to say: <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s worth going (of course&#8211;this is Cunningham) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/03\/11\/arts\/dance\/11merc.html\">it&#8217;s your last chance <\/a>to see the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/foot\/2006\/10\/paul_holly.html\">the serenely regal and eloquent Holley Farmer<\/a> and the heartbreakingly immediate Daniel Squire do Cunningham. <\/font><\/font><font style=\"font-size: 1.25em;\"><font style=\"font-size: 1.25em;\">It&#8217;s also the last appearance of Koji Mizuta, who for years has been one of my favorite dancers, but he&#8217;s not given much to do here and he seems to have accepted his forced exit, fading even before the curtain has fallen. <\/p>\n<p>And then there&#8217;s Cunningham himself, whose dancemaking is still brilliant but whose body won&#8217;t hold out much longer to do the bidding of his mind. <\/p>\n<p>So, go&#8211;and bring flowers. Is there some interdiction against throwing bouquets&#8211;or even a single daisy&#8211;at modern dance shows? Is it too florid for the avant-garde?
