{"id":75,"name":"Brian Kennedy","url":"","description":"Brian P. Kennedy has been President, Director and CEO of the Toledo Museum of Art since September 2010. He oversees a 36-acre campus housing one of America\u2019s finest art collections in three architecturally significant buildings.\r\n\r\nFrom 2005-2010, Dr. Kennedy was director of Dartmouth College\u2019s Hood Museum of Art in Hanover, New Hampshire (2005-2010), which has one of the largest and finest art collections at an American college or university. Prior to coming to the United States, Dr. Kennedy spent eight years as assistant director of the National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin (1989-1997) and seven years as director of the National Gallery of Australia (1997-2004) in Canberra. While in Australia, he initiated a free admission policy and greatly increased attendance through a series of major exhibitions and acquisitions, plus a total building refurbishment and an expansion to accommodate major temporary exhibitions.\r\n\r\nA frequent speaker at conferences and seminars, Dr. Kennedy is a prolific author and editor. His most recent books are on the artists Sean Scully (2008) and Frank Stella (2010). He is a past chair of the Irish Association of Art Historians (1996-97) and of the Council of Australian Art Museum Directors (2001-03). He is a member of the Association of Art Museum Directors, the American Association of Museums and the International Association of Art Critics.\r\n\r\nBorn in Dublin, Ireland, in 1961, Dr. Kennedy studied art history and history at University College in Dublin, earning bachelor\u2019s, master\u2019s and doctoral degrees.
