Paradigms are sets of rules and regulations that do two things: 1.) They establish boundaries 2.) They provide rules for success by allowing for problems to be solved\u00a0within these boundaries.<\/p>\n<p>In order to make a good judgment about career planning (the future) and to successfully accomplish crafting a career plan, we must recognize our current boundaries and be ready to go beyond them.\u00a0 Example: Yes, I believe I can achieve the &#8216;American Dream!&#8217;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3139\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/fieldnotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ambiguity.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3139\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3139\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/fieldnotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ambiguity-300x209.jpg\" alt=\"CC Lori Greig via Flickr\" width=\"300\" height=\"209\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/fieldnotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ambiguity-300x209.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/fieldnotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ambiguity.jpg 792w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3139\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CC Lori Greig via Flickr<\/p><\/div>\n<p>If we want to get individuals to buy into the importance of career planning we must first address the paradigms that may negate the validity of career planning.<\/p>\n<p>We live in a world of ambiguities: globalization, a rigged system, representatives that are not responsive to our needs and institutions that put self-interest over the needs of people and of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Strategies, tactics and tools must be provided to respond to the paradigms. This can minimize the emotional response of not buying into the validity that individuals influence the outcome of their actions. When an individual &#8216;buys in&#8217;, acceptance occurs because the individual has self-identified with the concept and recognizes the principle of \u2018what is in it for me.\u2019 For the individual, this facilitates the process of taking \u2018ownership\u2019 and leads to self-guided engagement, initiative and creativity to achieve the plan.<\/p>\n<p>When the planning process is \u2018owned\u2019 by the individual, then the emotional disbelief of \u2018why it is important to have a career plan?\u2019 is not an issue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do you craft a career plan<\/strong> (need analysis, resources, create plan)<strong>?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>How do you identify your gaps in learning<\/strong> (conducting talent assessments to create a talent profile)<strong>?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>How do you begin to fill those gaps<\/strong> (development strategies)<strong>?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These questions are now open to a reasoned, rational, and critical thinking approach.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/home?status=Our social enviro can often take away from the importance of career planning.
