{"id":765,"date":"2012-05-03T13:34:00","date_gmt":"2012-05-03T20:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/culturecrash\/2012\/05\/collecting-the-creative-class.html"},"modified":"2012-05-03T13:34:00","modified_gmt":"2012-05-03T20:34:00","slug":"collecting-the-creative-class","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/culturecrash\/2012\/05\/collecting-the-creative-class.html","title":{"rendered":"Collecting the Creative Class"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>MY recent stories on the struggles of the creative class have hit some people hard &#8212; I&#8217;ve gotten more emotional responses from these, I think, than anything I&#8217;ve written in two decades as a cultural journalist.\u00a0<\/span><br \/><span><br \/><\/span><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-TjE2BJ9I-JI\/T6L5fk7wtlI\/AAAAAAAABUE\/JpDUrHBMB3M\/s1600\/Stravinsky_picasso.png\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-TjE2BJ9I-JI\/T6L5fk7wtlI\/AAAAAAAABUE\/JpDUrHBMB3M\/s320\/Stravinsky_picasso.png\" width=\"215\"><\/a><span>(Due to the mean-spirited, anonymous nature of Internet culture, I&#8217;ve also gotten nastier comments than I expected, along with some smaller doses of smart, reasonable criticism.)<\/span><br \/><span><br \/><\/span><br \/><span>In roughest terms, my stories take different angles to look at the same problem &#8212; the decimation of the creative class, which includes artists of all kinds as well as the people who distribute and assess their work &#8212; in recent years due to digital technology, the recession and changing values.<\/span><br \/><span><br \/><\/span><br \/><span>In any case, as I dig deeper into the issue, I wanted to make all of these pieces available to interested readers.
