{"id":1171,"date":"2009-01-07T13:03:00","date_gmt":"2009-01-07T21:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/culturecrash\/2009\/01\/first-post-back-from-the-dead-nyt.html"},"modified":"2009-01-07T13:03:00","modified_gmt":"2009-01-07T21:03:00","slug":"first-post-back-from-the-dead-nyt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/culturecrash\/2009\/01\/first-post-back-from-the-dead-nyt.html","title":{"rendered":"FIRST POST: BACK FROM THE DEAD + NYT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_yrL6yfubw8g\/SW0e5zGYgdI\/AAAAAAAAABI\/bZqgC77hy7k\/s1600-h\/Ecotopia.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_yrL6yfubw8g\/SW0e5zGYgdI\/AAAAAAAAABI\/bZqgC77hy7k\/s320\/Ecotopia.jpg\" width=\"61\"><\/a><br \/>Hi Gang, I&#8217;m glad to report that after a period of enforced silence I&#8217;m back with a few stories I&#8217;m proud of.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Here&#8217;s the first, a New York Times piece on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/12\/14\/fashion\/14ecotopia.html\">a 70s cult novel called &#8220;Ecotopia.&#8221;<\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The novel is not as well written or nuanced as Ursula Le Guin&#8217;s &#8220;The Dispossessed: An Ambiguous Utopia,&#8221; which by coincidence i reread at about the same time (that is tough company)&#8230; but it&#8217;s a &#8220;novel of ideas&#8221; that you can read on an airplane, and how many of those are there? my story concentrates on the way the book anticipated some of the environmental movement and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelpollan.com\/\">michael-pollan<\/a> eat-local thing. &#8220;ecotopia&#8221; was green before <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kellygreendesign.net\/\">green was cool<\/a>, you could say. <\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This blog will keep interested readers up to date on my stories, which will be appearing in numerous places now, as well as various thoughts-of-the-day on interests such as wine, science-fiction, indie-rock and California weather.
