If you&#8217;re equally interested in seemingly useless bits of knowledge that aggregate into semi-useful clusters of facts, there are some sites well worth your clicks.<\/p>\n<p>\nFor general trends and opinions, wander by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harrisinteractive.com\/harris_poll\/index.asp?PollYear=2004\">Harris Interactive<\/a> where you can learn things like the current job satisfaction of public school teachers (which is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harrisinteractive.com\/harris_poll\/index.asp?PID=448\">highest it&#8217;s been in years<\/a>), the current confidence level of Americans in their major institutions (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.harrisinteractive.com\/harris_poll\/index.asp?PID=447\">White House and Supreme Court are down, higher education and organized religion are up<\/a>); and who&#8217;s up and coming as America&#8217;s favorite sports star (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.harrisinteractive.com\/harris_poll\/index.asp?PID=445\">Michael Jordan still hangs on<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>\nIf you <i>must<\/i> focus your factoid-finding on arts and culture, then the CPANDA site (Cultural Policy and the Arts National Data Archive, if you must know) is definitely for you. There are enough <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cpanda.org\/arts-culture-facts\/index.html\">&#8216;quick facts&#8217;<\/a> to keep you entertaining at parties for weeks (how many artists are there in the work force? I hear you ask&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cpanda.org\/arts-culture-facts\/artists\/images\/lbrfrcbartistno.gif\">here&#8217;s how many<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>\nAnd for pure bubble-gum fun, you can never beat the Google search engine&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/press\/zeitgeist.html\">zeitgeist listings<\/a>, which show what search phrases gained in popularity (&#8216;madonna&#8217; and &#8216;dawn of the dead&#8217; were hot last week) and which phrases lost some ground (for some reason, &#8216;robert pastorelli&#8217; and &#8216;tyra banks&#8217; led the losers).<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8216;Arts&#8217; and &#8216;culture&#8217; are obscenely complex things to manage and understand.
