The proposed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cantorexchange.com\/\">Cantor Exchange<\/a>, seeking approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission for a possible launch in April, would let traders &#8216;bet&#8217; on the domestic box office receipts of an upcoming movie, and buy or sell those bets (contracts, to be specific) with other traders. <\/p>\n<p>Beyond the fun and profit, the proposed exchange also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cantorexchange.com\/getdoc\/3a8770c2-31e5-4a4a-a784-9caac270bdc1\/Film-Finance-Tool.aspx\">claims to provide an innovative new way to increase financing support<\/a> for film production. Of course, the Motion Picture Association of America doesn&#8217;t see that benefit, and is <a href=\"http:\/\/mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com\/2010\/03\/24\/film-industry-group-asks-feds-to-prevent-futures-trading-on-box-office-results\/\">lobbying to block<\/a> the new exchange.
