He won his first game at 11, collecting the impressive sum of $280, and in high school delivered a newspaper his father published, <i>Bingo Today<\/i>. <\/p>\n<p><i>Lipstick, New Orleans,<\/i> <i>1997<\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"AndrewMiksyslipstick.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/anotherbb\/AndrewMiksyslipstick.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; display: block; margin: 0pt auto 20px;\" width=\"500\" height=\"408\" \/><i>Hickey<\/i>, <i>Seattle 1997<\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"AndrewMiksyshickey.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/anotherbb\/AndrewMiksyshickey.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; display: block; margin: 0pt auto 20px;\" width=\"500\" height=\"411\" \/>In 2007, he published a book of portraits featuring Lithuanian Roma titled, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/BAXT-FATE-Andrew-Miksys\/dp\/0979069807\">BAXT<\/a>, which is a Romani word for destiny, fate or fortune. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><i>Rustam, Lithuania 2006  <\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"andrewmiksysboytrees.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/anotherbb\/andrewmiksysboytrees.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; display: block; margin: 0pt auto 20px;\" width=\"448\" height=\"550\" \/>Miksys:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;\">This week my&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.photoeye.com\/bookstore\/citation.cfm?catalog=ZD082&amp;i=9780979069819&amp;i2=&amp;CFID=992036&amp;CFTOKEN=76089484\" target=\"_blank\">BAXT<\/a>&nbsp;series<br \/>\nabout the Roma (Gypsies) of Lithuania will be shown at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fotohof.at\/content.php?id=68\">FOTOHOF in<br \/>\nSalzburg (Austria)<\/a> and the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cac.lt\/en\/exhibitions\/future\/4127\"> Vilnius Contemporary Art Centre (Lithuania)<\/a>.<br \/>\n&nbsp;At Fotohof I am excited to be showing with&nbsp;Ugnius Gelguda and Indre<br \/>\nSerpytyte&nbsp;in an exhibition entitled&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fotohof.at\/content.php?id=68\" target=\"_blank\">TRYS<\/a>&nbsp;(Trys=Three). &nbsp;In Vilnius I will be taking part in the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cac.lt\/en\/exhibitions\/future\/4127\" target=\"_blank\">Lithuanian Art: 2000-2010: Ten Years<\/a>&#8221;<br \/>\nexhibition, a retrospective of Lithuanian art produced in the last<br \/>\ndecade.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;\">In both exhibitions he&#8217;s showing original photographs and<br \/>\ndocumentation of how some were transformed in the hands of his subjects. <\/p>\n<p>Miksys: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>During the time I was taking portraits of people for <i>BAXT<\/i>, I gave them copies.  Then I also gave away books. When I revisited them much later on, I was astonished to see how they had altered my photographs and displayed them in their homes.
