Only if you&#8217;re a magazine long sealed into its own irrelevance. Even there, however, securely out of date, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.time.com\/time\/\">Time<\/a> can occasionally leak into the present moment. I refer to its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.time.com\/time\/world\/article\/0,8599,2007238,00.html\">cover photo<\/a> of a young woman whose nose and ears were cut off by the Taliban for the crime of escaping back to her family. To call the Taliban a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fresnobee.com\/2010\/08\/04\/2030212_bob-herbert-its-time-to-call-an.html\">medieval madness<\/a> is to insult the Dark Ages. (Where are the Taliban&#8217;s cathedrals, tapestries, songs, poems and illuminated manuscripts?) What&#8217;s shared is a mobilizing energy. As the Catholics liked to say, &#8220;The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church.&#8221;&nbsp; Against that energy, our blundering intrusions are unlikely to accomplish anything of lasting value. The negatives are plain to anyone, and they are spreading, like the seeds of the Church.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/moniquemeloche.com\/artists\/joel-ross\/?pid=169\">Joel Ross<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"JoelRossPakistan.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/anotherbb\/JoelRossPakistan.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; display: block; margin: 0pt auto 20px;\" height=\"292\" width=\"401\" \/>Damaged, brutal, in the wrong against a deeper wrong, we go on, not on their side and not on our own.
