For every title that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/10\/16\/arts\/design\/16muse.html\">makes the piece<\/a> and sends it like a surface to air missile into the stratosphere, there are plenty that limp along, poisoning the goods. <\/p>\n<p>The non sequitur <em><\/em> is an infrequently used but fertile stratagem. I thought of it while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/books\/2010\/feb\/19\/oddest-book-title-worm-hunter-nazi-spoons\">reading<\/a> about Bookseller magazine&#8217;s prize for the oddest title of the year, via Diane Mapes.<\/p>\n<p>Calling an individual piece the <i>Afterthoughts of a Worm Hunter<\/i> would guarantee it a second look. Other potential winners in the name-that-artwork game include <i>Collectible Spoons of<br \/>\nthe Third Reich<\/i>, <i>Governing Lethal Behavior in Autonomous<br \/>\nRobots<\/i>, and, my personal favorite, <i>Reusing Old Graves<\/i>. <\/p>\n<p>If Anne Siems had called her painting <i>Reusing Old Graves<\/i> instead of <i>Velvet Forest<\/i>, I would have begun to look in a better frame of mind.
