First, they write about art in <a href=\"http:\/\/thenorthernspecial.org\/\">their own publication<\/a>, refusing to let critics interested in participating do so. Second, they&#8217;re curating their own shows. What do they think critics and curators are, chopped liver? (Prince Charles is also beset by upstarts, story <a href=\"http:\/\/news.scotsman.com\/princeofwales\/Princes-blast-at-people-who.2581183.jp\">here<\/a>. When will it all end?)<\/p>\n<p>Latest outrage: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greygalleryandlounge.com\/gallery\/\"><i>Parallel Universe<\/i><\/a>, curated by artists Francisco Guerrero and Joseph Park at Grey Gallery. <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the best group show in the city. The idea came from a deep familiarity with artists&#8217; studios. Guerrero and Park started thinking about what they saw in studio corners, work that represents paths not taken that still could be: ideas abandoned, on hold or too recent to represent anything other than a stray idea.<\/p>\n<p>Claude Zervas shows <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jamesharrisgallery.com\/Artists\/Claude%20Zervas\/d5.jpg\">these lights<\/a> at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jamesharrisgallery.com\/Artists\/Claude%20Zervas\/zervas.html\">James Harris Gallery<\/a>. At Grey are lights not found at James Harris, gleaming out of the eye sockets of chainsaw bears.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"CLaudeZervasbear3.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/anotherbb\/CLaudeZervasbear3.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; display: block; margin: 0pt auto 20px;\" height=\"300\" width=\"400\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/images.google.com\/images?q=jeffry+mitchell&amp;oe=utf-8&amp;client=firefox-a&amp;rlz=1R1MOZA_en___US365&amp;um=1&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;ei=0bmFS63HL4-CswPSqPGBCQ&amp;sa=X&amp;oi=image_result_group&amp;ct=title&amp;resnum=5&amp;ved=0CF8QsAQwBA\">Jeffry Mitchell<\/a>&#8216;s touch is a miracle of deft. When he draws, he draws silks in the air. Titled <i>Cloud<\/i> <i>Flower<\/i>, it&#8217;s nothing like a cloud. More like a drain with tea leaves matted around its rim. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"LeoBerkCloudFlower.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/anotherbb\/LeoBerkCloudFlower.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; display: block; margin: 0pt auto 20px;\" height=\"330\" width=\"400\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gregkucera.com\/webb.htm\">Dan Webb<\/a> is not a cartoonist. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DanWebbcartoon.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/anotherbb\/DanWebbcartoon.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; display: block; margin: 0pt auto 20px;\" height=\"484\" width=\"400\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jamesharrisgallery.com\/artists\/Claire%20Cowie\/cowie.html\">Claire Cowie<\/a> finishes what she starts.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"ClaireCowiedraft.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/anotherbb\/ClaireCowiedraft.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; display: block; margin: 0pt auto 20px;\" height=\"533\" width=\"400\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dawncerny.com\/\">Dawn Cerny<\/a> does not do abstract art.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DawnCernyheart totem.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/anotherbb\/DawnCernyheart%20totem.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; display: block; margin: 0pt auto 20px;\" height=\"372\" width=\"400\" \/>I don&#8217;t know <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk\/stuart\/StudentArt\/ast_id\/18409\">Josepf Vascovitz<\/a>&#8216;s work well enough to know what is and is not his pervue, but these drawings are splendid, with a golden yet mucky glow.
