The absence of the drawing did not deter its sale,<br \/>\nin the form of&nbsp; a certificate of ownership. If the same reasoning<br \/>\napplied to cars, you could pay for the car and ride away on the credit<br \/>\ncard receipt. Unlike war, cars, cats, weather and the kitchen table,<br \/>\nart still functions even if it&#8217;s only in the mind. <\/p>\n<p>All art has its own niche. Larsen has staked his in a narrow band of comic process. <br \/><i><br \/>A Tool To Deceive And Slaughte<\/i>r<br \/>\nis a black box that will always be attempting to auction itself off on<br \/>\neBay. The collector who acquires it has to agree to relinquish it if<br \/>\nanother offers a bid higher than the owner&#8217;s purchase price, and so on,<br \/>\nforever. It&#8217;s an answer of sorts to Robert Morris&#8217;s <i>Box With the Sound of Its Own Making<\/i> from 1961, owned by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seattleartmuseum.org\/\">Seattle Art Museum<\/a>. Larsen&#8217;s is a box with the sound of its own selling.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"caleblarsenbox.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/anotherbb\/caleblarsenbox.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto 20px; text-align: center; display: block;\" height=\"302\" width=\"450\" \/><i>The Entire Contents Of The Pen<\/i><br \/>\n(1,604 Linear Foot Drawing). Starting with a fresh fountain pen, Larsen<br \/>\ndrew on an 9 x 12 inch piece of paper until the pen ran dry. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The drawing now contains everything that the pen once was. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Looks a bit like a <a href=\"http:\/\/images.google.com\/images?q=clyfford+still&amp;oe=utf-8&amp;client=firefox-a&amp;rlz=1R1GGGL_en___US344&amp;um=1&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;ei=zABYS9joEI7ANpqn4OEE&amp;sa=X&amp;oi=image_result_group&amp;ct=title&amp;resnum=1&amp;ved=0CBUQsAQwAA\">Clyfford Still<\/a>, updated by means of an obsessive-compulsive back story and, of course, the pen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"caleblarsenpenimage.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/anotherbb\/caleblarsenpenimage.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto 20px; text-align: center; display: block;\" height=\"302\" width=\"450\" \/>My favorite <strike>scam<\/strike><br \/>\nsculpture in the show is titled, $10,000 Sculpture (In Progress). It<br \/>\naccepts your money, and gives you nothing back. I slipped it three<br \/>\ndollar bills before coming to my senses.
