In their honor, it&#8217;s a good time to read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/story\/story.php?storyId=92649123\">Joseph Wambaugh<\/a>&#8216;s latest, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Hollywood-Moon-Joseph-Wambaugh\/dp\/184724811X\"><i>Hollywood Moon<\/i><\/a>. Like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thrillingdetective.com\/trivia\/mcbain.html\">Ed McBain<\/a>&#8216;s <i>87th Precinct<\/i> series but much more freewheeling and comic, Wambaugh turns not a single cop but an entire division into his hero: <i>Semper Cop<\/i>.
