The Music Director/Conductor provides artistic leadership for the Orchestra, developing both traditional and innovative programming that is significant to the community and the orchestra, and promotes audience development.
The Music Director/Conductor would conduct a majority of the orchestra’s rehearsals and concerts, and provide leadership through the establishment of standards of performance, choice and balance of repertoire, artists, choral ensembles, guest conductors, and selection of musicians for vacancies in the Orchestra (in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement).The Music Director/Conductor would also participate in and support fundraising and promotional efforts in the community.The Music Director/Conductor reports to the Board of Directors through the Executive Director.
Requirements for the position include: a proven ability to provide performances of the highest caliber; thorough knowledge of orchestral repertoire, styles, and performance practice; ability to motivate players to reach their highest levels of achievement; practical understanding of all orchestral instruments; effective rehearsal technique; and strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills, exhibiting decorum and professionalism in all interactions with musicians, staff, and the public. Successful experience as a music director or artistic director of an orchestra, while not required, is desirable.
A competitive salary package will be offered depending on qualifications and experience.
The Reno Chamber Orchestra is a fiscally sound 501(c)3 organization with a $700,000 balanced budget, a forty-four year history, and broad and generous community support. It features a September through April performance season, including five pairs of subscription concerts, and occasional other (i.e. summer) performance opportunities. The Reno Chamber Orchestra also presents the annual Nevada Chamber Music Festival in late December-early January.
