Elizabeth: I'm out of town - clear across the country in NM - and stumbled onto your brand-new blog this morning via my ArtsJournal homepage. So glad to have the benefit of your critical and interpretive intelligence within reach again - and so sad to learn of the Voice's latest slash and burn management decision. I think it's time for this ersatz "Voice" to have its purloined name confiscated! "The Voice" has been gone for far too long. I look forward to reading you (and Deborah?) via alternative channels.

Hi Elizabeth - nice to be together again at Arts Journal. I'm struggling with this new format.

I never wanted to be fired from the Voice, so I just never signed the new contract.

I look forward to reading you.

Yours,

Kyle

here's what the New York Times said Saturday, which is basically all I know; I don't work there anymore, obviously.

hi elizabeth - there have been so many warning shots across the bow with other critics losing their jobs that this one feels like a final hit to the medium of dance criticism.

i can understand the newspaper's difficulties as i watch the sf chronicle become a shadow of itself and the examiner look like an ad sheet that used to come with real paper. but deborah jowitt? how could her writing not matter enough? as a dancer, it's downright terrifying.

will you please write more on how this happened? thanks in advance.

best,
deborah

That's too shocking.

Deborah Jowitt's presence was missed at the press conference and on the Guggenheim panel, with only a mention of her recent biography.

Good to see you have a blog.

L.
