Norman Lebrecht on shifting sound worlds
Any steel string instrument with high tension (such as an acoustic steel string guitar) will need it’s tension brought down by detuning the strings prior to ANY flight REGARDLESS of airline. The pressure at those altitudes is enough to add enough tension to a guitar to pull it’s saddle right off (as the photo is showing) As a musician that travels frequently via airplane, I hate some of the policies in place regarding carry on softshell/ hardshell cases etc, but a bridge snapping out of place from the soundboard is user error, plain and simple. Sorry for your loss, but that’s clearly a case of tension, not mishandling…
