Norman Lebrecht on shifting sound worlds
Many newspapers are solemnly apologising this morning for their premature announcement of the death of Horace Silver. Horace is 85 and, his son says, in the best of health.
The news of his death will eventually be true.
Jorge Luis Borges and Bob Hope met with similar fates: their deaths were announced while they were still alive. Borges, I seem to recall, wrote a poem about the experience; because an experience it is. Bob Hope stated that news of his death was: “grossly overstated”.
