Tragedy: Young English mezzo is found dead

We have received the following sad news from Kate Flowers of Co-Opera Co:

We have just had the dreadful news that our Associate Artist – Mezzo Felicity Smith – who was covering Katisha in The Mikado – has died.

We last saw her singing magnificently in the cover showing on Saturday at The Hackney Empire.

As soon as we have any further information we will let you know.

I am sure you will join with us in sending our deepest sympathy to Felicity’s family and friends – their loss must unbearable – the loss to opera is simply tragic.

UPDATE: Felicity, born and educated in New Zealand, was to have given a recital in Dartford Parish Church tonight. Here is her website c.v.
