Norman Lebrecht on shifting sound worlds
Our editorial on the sacking of Gerard Mortier has been reproduced (with permission) in El Pais. Click here to read it in Spanish.
They should at least have deleted the passage in which you state Mortier had brought Spanish opera more relevance than it had during the last three centuries. (Quote: En los tres últimos años, Gerard Mortier ha proporcionado a la ópera en España más relevancia de la que ha tenido en los tres últimos siglos) This is simply a ridiculous statement, showing poor understanding of History of opera in Spain. Sorry.
I am sure this will offend many Spanish readers.
Politics and art do not “combine” well ! A real shame.
