CHAOS AT BIRMINGHAM’S NEW LIBRARY
Birmingham’s new library looks fantastic and opened on 3rd September to much deserved praise. It ended a long period since December 2012 when we were unable to take out music.
Well, actually no, it didn’t; large parts of the music library are still completely inaccessible.Three weeks after the opening , not only can I not take out music scores, but also I cannot get any meaningful information as to when I will be able to …
I have tried several times via all of their modes of access ie by phone, by email, or by online ‘chat’. At each attempt I have either received no reply whatsoever, or a promise of further information - a series of promises which have so far all been broken !
In the old library (before the move) if you searched the catalogue for scores by say Xenakis you would get at least 30-40 records – now you get one. What has happened to the scores ? Do they still exist or have they disposed of them ? If they still have them, where are they and when will they be available ?
An entry on their site states ”We are working very hard to restore the music items to the online catalogue. We know how much our customers value this service.” Well, yes I value this service. Tell us when the service will resume. The whole place seems utterly chaotic.
