RE: Orchestra Mozart UK debut concert, Royal Festival Hall, 1 October 2013

On his doctor’s advice, Claudio Abbado has cancelled his orchestral commitments for September and October 2013. Claudio Abbado is confident he will recover rapidly and be able to participate in all future projects.

It has also been announced that pianist Martha Argerich will no longer be performing at the concert.

We are pleased to announce that Bernard Haitink will conduct Orchestra Mozart’s UK debut concert on 1 October as part of Shell Classic International and soloist Maria João Pires will also join the orchestra to perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.2.

We are deeply indebted to Mr Haitink and Ms Pires for making possible their appearances at such short notice.

The full programme details for this performance are now as follows:

Shell Classic International

Orchestra Mozart

 conductor
Maria João Pires piano

Ludwig Van Beethoven: Overture, Leonore No.2

  1. Wow, the deps aren’t too shabby are they?

    • Tiffany Hore says:

Blimey, you could say that! Like when Jonas Kaufmann stepped in for Klaus Florian Vogt in the Munich Lohengrin recently (I’d have felt like my birthday AND Christmas had been sprung upon me totally by surprise, to be in that audience. Not intended as a slight on Vogt but, the dep would have excited me more!!)

  2. Argerich played a MAGNIFICENT concert yesterday in Berlin with Barenboim and the Staatskapelle and she was in very high spirits (20 minutes of encores). She still has it.

  3. ‘…and we wish him a full and speedy recovery’ might have been nice!

  4. Well, Martha won’t play with anyone else who’s available. She’ll play with Barenboim and Dutoit, we know.

In any case, Pires is wonderful, and the audience need not feel disappointed.

  5. If Argarich won’t play with anyone other than Abaddo
If Argarich won’t play with anyone other than Abaddo, what was she doing playing with Barenboim in Berlin yesterday and the day before? Piano duets as an encore as well!

  6. It’s a pity because Argerich also cancelled her concert in London last year, at the Proms 2012.
