‘I missed my last chance to hear Sherrill Milnes sing’

Our New York operavores, Elisabeth Frayer and Shawn E Milnes (good family), have been scouring the far reaches of the American continent in search of summer opera while the Met is closed.

Last week took them to Savannah, Georgia (you see how dedicated they are?), where Cousin Sherrill made a surprise role debut in Boheme. And Elisabeth missed it. Read on… here.

  1. Savannah is a very nice little city. Charming, with gracious people.

  2. Hey, Norman! Whaddya mean, “you see how dedicated they are?”

Savannah is a lovely town*. Granted, it can be hot and sticky in August (an odd time to hold a festival there), but it’s worth a visit anytime.

    * Hometown loyalty obliges me to put in a word for Savannah’s elder sister, Charleston, which has far fewer public squares but a vastly superior waterfront, much closer beaches (Savannah is 20-odd miles inland), marvelous dining and excellent healthcare. Not to mention the entertainingly nutty politics.
