Gerhard Schroeder and his wife, Doris, have provided funds for a professorship in conducting at the Hannover Academy of Music and Dance. The post will secure the future of the Hannover Girls’ Choir, of which the Schroeders are great fans.

Founded in 1952, the Mädchenchor Hannover (Hanover Girls Choir) is one of the best known youth choirs in Germany. The ensemble has earned acclaim by winning such contests as the Deutscher Chorwettbewerb (the German Choir Competition), “Let the Peoples Sing” (Competition of the European Broadcasting Union), the International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf and more.
