The other conductor who turned 80 last week

Amid the flood of congrats for Claudio Abbado last week, another 80th birthday got overlooked.

Libor Pesek, the Czech pixie who galvanised Liverpool in the 1980s, is back with the Phil, getting garlanded. 

Such a charmer.

    Norman, do you remember joining joining us on Libor’s first RLPO tour of Czechoslovakia in the late 80′s? I have a vivid memory of you contributing not only an article on musical matters for the Sunday Times cultural pages, but also one for the Travel section which included the classic comment that the orchestra’s Bratislava hotel had all the facilities of a London park bench!!!
