Slipped Disc prompts festival panic

The Herrenchiemsee Festival in Bavaria – supreme patron HRH Herzog Franz von Bayern - has been saved in the nick of time by stand-ins after its artistic director Enoch zu Guttenberg had to pull out for a slipped disc operation. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Flying in to save the show are conductors Andrew Parrott, Reinhard Goebel and Salvador Mas Conde. Press release below.


Herrenchiemsee Festival: Andrew Parrott, Reinhard Goebel and Salvador Mas Conde as new conductors



Enoch zu Guttenberg, Artistic Director of the Herrenchiemsee Festival, had to cancel his concerts at this year’s festival due to a slipped disc operation. Conductors Salvador Mas CondeAndrew Parrott and Reinhard Goebel will step in at short notice.


The opening concert on 16 July with Bach’s cantatas will be conducted by Reinhard GoebelAndrew Parrott conducts the performances of Händel’s Messiah arranged by Mozart on 18 and 28 July as well as the concert on 21 July with works by Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. Salvador Mas Conde will be on the rostrum of the KlangVerwaltung Orchestra at the concert on 27 July featuring Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4 (instead of the Bruckner Symphony No. 6) and works by Bach.

    Having watched some of Guttenberg’s plodding attempts at performing Bach (on DVD), I’m sure Goebel and Parrott will be a 200% improvement.

      Enoch zu Guttenberg is a mediocre musician[redacted]. Can’t imagine why NL is extending sympathies here. As for kind Duke Franz, the country is a republic. Hello!
