St Louis snags trumpet from Atlanta

The St Louis Symphony has a new principal trumpet. She is┬áKarin Bliznik, associate principal trumpet at the Atlanta Symphony, where some of the musicians have been severely discouraged by this season’s showdown with an unappreciative management.

Karin is also principal at Santa Fe Opera. She’s a catch. read on here.

She rocks!Atlanta has had some bad luck with its principal trumpets:Chris Martin left for Chicago,Mark Hughes for Houston,Tom Hooten for LA Phil, and now she!

  2. Good for her, but really, no need to make a big deal out of this in terms of what it says about the state of either orchestra. Almost any principal job is better than a non-principal job in another orchestra. Even if she had gone to St. Louis from a Big 5 orchestra (I know that term is supposed to be obsolete, but really, it’s not) there would be nothing surprising here.

Hasn’t the principal clarinet from the Minnesota Orchestra gone to LA as associate principal? That DOEAS speak volumes about the MO.

  3. Malcolm James says:

She is ASSOCIATE principal trumpet at ASO, so this is a promotion. Moving on in this way is what young players with potential do, even without the problems at the ASO.
