Hours after we and others broke the story that Raphael Merlin, cellist of the Ebene Quartet, had seen his cello confiscated by Customs at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, he has messaged that he’s on his way back to the airport to recover the cello.
Apparently, someone high up gave an order and a week of paperwork was just blown away.
Raphael has just messaged: JE VAIS A CHARLES DE GAULLE RECUPERER MON VIOLONCELLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! MERCI MADAME LA DIRECTRICE DES DOUANES POUR VOTRE COMPREHENSION ET MERCI A TOUS POUR VOTRE SOUTIEN !!!!!
We’re delighted for him and thrilled that the French authorities can cut through red tape so much faster than some of their neighbours.
