Norman, it’s two titles, two jobs, two cities. Ludwigshafen is his main job, I believe, on the Rhine. Halle is the opera house for Sachsen-Anhalt, where apparently he has recently led the “Ring.”

    • thanks!

The administrations at the Theater Magdeburg and at the Anhaltisches Theater in Dessau, both of which produce many operas in their respective seasons, will be surprised to learn that “Halle is THE opera house for Sachsen-Anhalt.”

    He’s very good, apparently.

Karl-Heinz Steffens was Principal Clarinet of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra before moving to a similar position with the Berlin Philharmonic to pursue a career as conductor. He has already conducted the CBSO in the UK.

Excelent artist and wonderful clarinetist. I can´t forget his Mozart A major concert with The Czechoslovak Chamber Orchestra in Sonthofen in 1993. Amazing experience.

The singers are notoriously unhappy with his conducting, both in Halle and in Berlin. In the Ring production, there was a box built to the side of the pit, not for the prompter, but for the assistant conductor to give the singers cues because the Maestro was too busy to do it himself.
